High School Counselor

Georgetta Stanford has 30 years experience in education with 20 years devoted to the students at Henrietta High School.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in vocational home economics from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.  She received her Master of Science degree in child development and family living from East Texas State University.  She also holds a counselor's certification from Midwestern State University. 

What does a school counselor do?

Works with individuals and groups; helps identify needs of students; encourages better student relationships; promotes positive attitudes and choices; maintains confidences; provides preventative counseling; aids teachers and parents in helping students; reviews tests results to provide information about abilities, needs, achievements, and interests; assists students with developmental stages of growth; coordinates efforts with other school personnel including class scheduling; coordinates referrals to outside agencies; facilitates discussion groups; provides in-service for faculty; and participates in curriculum development.

How does the student receive counseling?

Self referral, teacher referral, parent referral, administrative referral, and referral by a friend.
