THEA Exemptions

After calling several colleges and universities and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, this is what I learned about THEA exemptions.
Seniors who wish to do dual credit this year are exempt if they passed all parts of TAKS.
Seniors this year who are applying for admissions for next year must meet the exemptions listed below:
-
TAKS – Math of 2200 or better and/or English Language Arts of 2200 with a 3 on writing (must meet reading and writing together)
-
ACT – Must meet 23 composite and math of 19 and/or English of 19 (composite must be met otherwise 19’s don’t matter).
-
SAT – Must meet 1070 total and math of 500 and/or verbal of 500 (total must be met otherwise 500’s don’t matter)
Tests taken after April 2004 and later, may qualify you for partial exemptions. This means you can be exempt from taking the Math portion or the ELA portion. The cost is the same but you only have to take the portion you did not meet the exemption on. To be completely exempt, you must meet all criteria of one of the following: TAKS, ACT, or SAT
