HES Pioneer Day

October 03, 2012

On September 12, HES enjoyed Pioneer Day at our school.   Community members were invited to come and share various aspects of living/working in Clay County.

To kick off the fun, Jay Hollis, country-western singer, performed a free concert for the whole school.

T.C. Long, rodeo announcer, shared about the upcoming rodeo. He presented a message on following your dreams and to always persevere.  When he was younger he was told he did not have the voice to be an announcer so he worked even harder to fulfill his dreams.

Students then rotated to stations with the following topics and presenters:
Dan Shores -  Spurs, Bridles & Cowboy Tools
Jason Schindler, Justin Hensley, Dusty Ellis – Roping/Bullwhip
Ramona Seward, Sonny Seward, and Rowdy Seward – Hayride
Brandon Dunn – Rodeo Clown’s Life
Perry & Nancy Lee, Mark Lee, Ross & Amy Coleman – Lee’s Arena/Team RopingKelly Obermier – The Life of a Pioneer Woman/cooked Johnny Cakes
Rowdy Moore – Auctioneering and Cowboy Wood Carving
Amy Payne, Krystal Fain, and Lynsey Erickson – Made Bandanas
Mrs. & Mrs. Mayo – Cowboy Life and Cowboy Music
Misty & Dally Parker – Horse Facts/Barrel Racing
Missy Hodgin & Bryce Moore – Branding, Ear Tagging, & Tattooing
Doug & Vicky Dancer – Bootmakers
Mike & Pam Payne – Leather Stamping
Ron Calloway  from Prairie Moon Band – Cowboy Songs

HES would like to thank all of these wonderful volunteers for sharing their time and knowledge with our students.
