Elementary School: Parent Information

Things for Parents to Know

August 28, 2010

Head Start, and grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth are served on our campus.

It is very important that your child arrive at school on time each day.  School begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. Any student not in the classroom by 8:05 is considered tardy.  School ends at 2:45 p.m. for Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten; 3:30 for all others.

If your child is out of school, please contact the office by 8:30 a.m., so assignments can be arranged by the teacher.  Please send a doctor’s excuse or other note explaining the absence.  Any absence without written documentation will be considered unexcused.  If your child is sent home sick from school, please send a note to the school the following day to excuse the absence.
If you know that your child will need to miss school for some reason, please notify your child’s teacher and/or the office and complete a pre-arranged absence form.

Three or more tardies and/or absences in a 4-week period will be reviewed by the attendance committee.

If you need to pick your child up before regular dismissal please report to the office to sign them out. The office staff will call for your child from the office.

We have one main entrance. In order to gain access to the school, visitors must enter through the main entrance and sign-in at the office to receive a visitor’s badge.  Once visitors have been signed in, they will be given access through our security door. All other exterior doors will remain locked throughout the day. We are happy to have this added security measure in place to protect our students.

All school personnel will be wearing badges to identify themselves. If you do not have a visitor’s badge on, you will be asked to go back to the office to receive one. Knowing who is on campus at all times helps us protect your child’s safety.  To minimize disruptions of instructional time, only prearranged classroom visits are allowed during the school day.

Student lunches cost $2.50; adult lunches are $3.00.  Lunch money can be sent any day of the week. Each student is allowed to charge their lunch up to 5 times before being served an alternative meal.  Breakfasts are free and are served in the classroom each morning.

We encourage all parents to meet with their child's homeroom teacher throughout the school year.
