The following scholarships can be found either online at the website listed or in the counselor's office.  It will be updated on a regular basis.  Scholarships in red are ones I have received information on in past years.  As I hear from them, I will change the font color to black to indicate it is now available. 

*Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 5401.  Awards a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior.  Must fill out application and write an essay of at least 300 words describing "My Veteran Hero".  Return application and essay to Lois Whitley, President P.O. Box 583, Henrietta, TX 76365.  Must be to Mrs. Whitley by May 15, 2010.  Applications are in the counselor's office.  

*Henrietta High School Community Scholarship application is now available. This application  applies for several of our community scholarships. Applications should be turned in to Mrs. Stanford by May 7, 2010.Community Scholarship 2010

*West Texas Press Association:  (2) $2,000 college scholarships will be awarded this summer to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career in community print journalism.  Applicants must reside or attend school in the area served by the West Texas Press Association. Applications are in counselor's office and must be postmarked by June 19, 2010. Judging will include an essay written on, "My Future and Career Plans in Community Journalism".  Applications are in the counselor's office.

*Felix H. and Madge B.Watson Scholarship Trust:  This generally is for $1,000 but has been more in the past.  No specific criteria for selection except that the student graduate from a Clay County school.   This year each school in Clay County must narrow down the applications to 3. Therefore, applications must be returned to counselor by April 30th so a selection committee can choose the 3 to be sent to compete for the scholarship.  Henrietta High School students have received at least one of these each year it has been in existence.  Please take the time to fill out the application and return it.   Watson Scholarship 2010

*If you were ever a participating member of the Boys and Girls Club you should check out these scholarships.  The Wichita Falls Boys and Girls Club Alumni Association, the Wichta Falls Founder Lions Club Scholarship, and the James Lane  Memorial Scholarship.  I have printed copies in my office and I'm attaching links to each.  The criteria are listed on each.  The deadline for all three is June 5th.  Alumni Scholarship, Founders Lions club,

*The Ed Bevering Memorial Scholarship applications from Wells Fargo Bank of Henrietta are now available.  The amount is for $250 and it is awarded to a Clay County senior .Deadline is May 10th.  Return your applications to the Wells Fargo Bank downtown Henrietta.  Ed Bevering Wells Fargo 2010

*Henrietta All Sports Club Scholarships - 6 scholarships will be given in the amount of $500 each (3 boys and 3 girls).  A committee will select based on varsity participation, GPA, and non-athletic extracurricular activities both school and non-school related.  Requires an essay, "How playing sports relates to life."  click here for application .Athletic Scholarship 2010

*Lincoln College is giving away 50 Scholarships to Seniors and the last chance to apply is on April 10th at the Lincoln College of Technology campus at 2915 Alouette Dr., Grand Prairie TX, 75052. Seniors will be allowed to take the scholarship test and then take a tour of the college with their friends and family and enjoy a complimentary lunch.

In addition to the 50 scholarships mentioned above, Lincoln College also gives away eight different $1000 scholarships to every High School, in Texas. One senior from each high school has the opportunity to actually receive $3,000 of the $8,000.

If you know of any 2010 seniors who are interested in Automotive, Diesel, Collision, HVAC and/or  Welding programs, please have them contact me this week so they have the opportunity to earn one of the 50 scholarships that range from $3,000 - full tuition.  contact Eric Graham

*Band Boosters Scholarship - Go to www.henriettaband.com to access the scholarship form.   Click on Senior Scholarships link on the left side of the page.  Deadline is May 15th.  

*Wichita Falls Joint Electrical Apprentice - 5 year electrical apprenticeship program. Must be a minimum of 17 years when applying and 18 at the time of indenture.  Must have a school diploma or GED.  Must have completed and passed one year of high school Algebra.  Must have a current driver's license.  Applications will be taken the first and third Wednesday of each month at the IBEW Local Union 681 office at 6111 Jacksboro Hwy., Wichita Falls, Texas from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.

*Clay County Farm Bureau Scholarship - $250 scholarship given to two male and/or female students graduating from the 5 Clay County high schools.  Must have maintained at least a 3.0 (B) GPA through the 4 years of high school and parents or student must have been a Clay County Farm Bureau member for at least a year with renewal of membership for next year.  Two letters of recommendation should accompany each application.  Deadline is April 10th.  Applications available in counselor's office.

*Vernon College Employees' Forum - $500 scholarships to students attending Vernon College.  Preferences will be given to those majoring in Account, Business Management, computer and Information Sciences, Administrative Office Technology, or Health Information Technology.  Other Majors will be considered.  Applications can be found at www.vernoncollege.edu/stafforgs/efindex.html.  Must be submitted by April 15th.  Mail to:  Vernon College, Employees' Forum  Attn:  Linda Haney, 4105 Maplewood, Wichita Falls, TX  76309.  

*North Texas Home Builders Association Scholarship Fund - This organization will award up to 5 $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree appropriate in fields related to and supportive of building trades/construction industries.  This includes, but is not limited to general construction, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, architecture, surveying, engineering and welding.  Must be a resident of Wichita, Archer or Clay County, enroll as a full-time students for the year in which the scholarship is awarded, pursue an associate or higher degree in a field related to building/trades/construction industry, must have a HS diploma from an accredited high school in Wichita, Archer or Clay County.  Acceptance from a certified trade school program also qualifies a student for scholarship consideration, requires letter of recommendation from a school official, a personal reference employer or work supervisor is applicable, and a copy of a high school transcript.  Must be postmarked May1, 2010. *The Bryant and dorothy Edwards Scholarship and the Kirk Edwards Scholarship available through Midwestern State University provides scholasrhips for graduates of Clay County high schools.  Applications are at mwsu.edu/scholarships. *North Texas Insurance Women and the Wichita Falls Association of Insurance Agents - $1,000.  Deadline is April 2nd.  Must return to counselor by March 31st in order for the counselor evaluation to be filled out.  No specific requirements.  Applications in counselor's office.  Applications will be mailed to Pamela Lankford c/o Barnard Insurance Group 1100 8th Street, Wichita Falls, TX  76307.

*  Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union offers the "People Helping People" high school scholarship.  7 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to area high school graduating seniors.  All applications must be submitted no later than Friday April 23rd, at 5:00 PM to address listed on applications.  Must be a member of the Wichita Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union to apply.  Requires 2 letters of recommendation.  Selection based on Academics, Character, Leadership, Community Involvement, Letters of Recommendation and Essay. 

*Wichita Falls Chapter of Texas Tech Alumni Association will be awarding over $5500 in scholarship money to area high school seniors who are going to TexasTech.  Must complete application, attach a transcript and letters of recommendation.  Deadline is April 1st.  Mail to Texas Tech Alumni Association, c/o Mr. Brian Stahler , 2207 Avondale, Wichita Falls, TX  76308.  Applications are in the counselor's office.  

*The Enlisted Spouse's Club Scholarship - Deadline March 19,2010. Amount, $1,000.  Must be a legal dependent son or daughter of U.S. military personnel (active, retired, active duty reserve, deceased, officer or enlisted). click here for application:  Enlisted Spouses Application

*www.collegeanswer.com - good website for free scholarship search

*American Society of Military Comptrollers - not necessarily designed for the students with the highest GPA, although scholastic achievement is certainly considered.  The scholarship is awarded to that better than average student who has potential, but for a variety of reasons does not have the very highest grades.  Must be entering a field of study directly related to financial management business administration, economics, public administration, computer science, accounting, finance, or operations research relating to financial management.)  Mail directly to address on application.  click here for the pdf copy of Cover Letter, and ApplicationDeadline is May 14, 2010.

*Angelo State University - CARR Scholarship - rank in top 45%, 1020 on SAT or 22 on ACT.  wwwangelo.edu or email at Carr@angelo.edu.

*Lincoln College of Technology is hosting a free Scholarship Exam this Saturday February 13th at 10:00 am. This announcement will make students who are interested in Automotive, Diesel, Collision, HVAC and Welding programs, as well as Associate Degree programs, aware that they still have scholarship options.  Your 2010 Seniors still have the opportunity to earn one of the 50 Scholarships that Lincoln College of Technology is awarding, ranging from $3,000 to Full Tuition, for a total Scholarship amount of over $200,000.
Again the test is free and the students will have the opportunity to tour the school and get a free lunch.

KFC Scholars - Graduating 2010, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75 (C+) or higher, enrolling in a 2-4 year public, instate college or university, pursuing a bachelor's degree, must be a U.S. Citizen.  Complete application online at www.kfcscholars.org.   Deadline February 10th.

*Mustangs Guarantee Program:  This MSU program will cover the remaining balance of tuition and mandatory fees that are not covered by other sources of financial aid.  Students must have submitted the FAFSA and received acknowledgement from MSU financial aid office by April 30th, be accepted for fall admission to MSU by March 1st, enroll as an undergraduate beginning freshman in Fall 2010, have a combined family adjusted gross income(AGI) of $50,000 or less and be Pell Grant eligible, and be classified as a Texas resident for tuition purposes.  For more information contact MSU Financial Aid at http://finaid.mwsu.edu/m_guarantee,asp.    

*The Texas Elks State Association Annual Essay Contest:  The deadline for turning in essay is February 28, 2010  The Entry form and rules are in the counselor's office.  The topic is "The American Dream...What is it?"  It will be mailed to Elks Lodge No. 1105, 4205 Seymour Hwy, Wichita Falls, TX  76308

*Vernon College Scholarship Application:  online at www.vernoncollege.edu/finaid.   For priority consideration it must be postmarked by April 1st. 

*MSU Donor Services scholarship page:  The applications can be viewed and printed from this site. Some scholarships are only for MSU, while others are open to students attending any college.  The website is:  www.mwsu.edu/scholarships and click on the "donor scholarship application" link.

*Texas Elks State Association (TESA) Scholarship - 6 scholarships will be awarded to 3 males and 3 females graduating in 2010.  Each award will be in the amount of $1,250 per year for the 1020-1014 academic years for a total of $5,000.  Winners must attend an accredited junior college, college or university in the State of Texas, they can NOT be in the top 5% of their class.  Applicants will be judged on financial need, scholarship, leadership and extra-curricular activities and strength of character.  The application must be submitted to the local lodge on or before March 5, 2010.  Winners will be notified by May 14, 2010.  Applications are in the counselor's office.

*Terry's Sports Page Scholarship of $1,000.  Intent is to recognize students in Texas UIL Region I Class AA who exhibit leadership and good citizenship in both academics and athletics.  Only a high school counselor can nominate a student/athlete for the scholarship, however, I can nominate several if they meet the following criteria:  Graduate with class of 2010, Active in at least one UIL high school sport covered by Terry's Sports Page, active in at least one UIL Academic competition or extra-curricular event such as band,FFA, or other UIL sponsored competitions, maintain a 90 GPA grades 9-12.  Download the application at http://terryssportspage.com/TSPSA.pdf.  If you have problems, send an email to regionone@cableone.net.    You must have your application turned in to Counselor by February 25, 2010 so that it can be sent by the deadline.  

*Texas Telephone Association:  high school can only approve 2 applications. Student must have at least a "B" average, plan to attend a Texas community college or university by Fall 2005.  You must provide a transcript and a letter of acceptance from the college and a copy of your Student Aid Report.  Special consideration will be given to students who are pursuing a degree in math, business, engineering and computer sciences.  Deadline to turn in to counselor is March 10, 2010.  Applications can be accessed at www.tta.org. 

*Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program:  visit www.kohlskids.com to nominate a deserving young volunteer.  Prizes range from $50 to $10,000.  Nominations accepted February 1st through March 15, 2010.

*Ft. Worth Scottish Rite Foundation scholarship:  application available at www.fortworthscottishrite.org .  It must be prepared EXACTLY as asked for and be postmarked no later than March 15, 2010.    

*Applications are now available for graduating seniors for a scholarship from the Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum, Inc.  The application may be downloaded from the web page (dallasscottishrite.org) or requested from the Dallas Scottish Rite office at 214-748-9196.  Deadline is March 1, 2010.  Amount is $1,000.

*Midwestern State University President's Leadership Scholarship - Deadline March 1st - must have a 24+ on ACT or 1100+ on SAT and be in top 40%.  All applicants must be accepted for admission before their application will be reviewed.  http://admissions.mwsu.edu/scholarships.asp    This will give you access to the MSU scholarships.

*Midwestern State University General Academic Scholarships - deadline March 1 find application at http://admissions.mwsu.edu/scholarships.asp. MSU General

  *Check out the web site for all the scholarship information at UT Arlington.  www.uta.edu/scholarships  

*National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship application is due to the counselor's office December 16th.  Check out the application to see if you meet the criteria for applying.

*Wayne Sanders Scholarship - given to graduates from Midway and Henrietta High Schools. Applications are due in Counselor's office on May 18th.  Sanders Scholarship

*Clay County Art Association  - Helpful but not required to be entering field of visual arts, music, drama, dance, literature or any activity that might be considered Art or Ideas.  Must be graduate of Clay County School and have a GPA of 85 or better. Applications in Counselor's office.  Deadline:  May 1, 2009.

* Vernon College Employees' Forum Scholarship offered to students majoring in:  Accounting, Business Management, Computer and Information Sciences, Administrative Office Technology or Health Information Technology.  However, if there aren't any applications in those majors, the committee will look at all applications, so everyone going to Vernon is encouraged to apply.  You can access the application at www.vernoncollege.edu/stafforgs/efindex.html.  Deadline is April 15th.

*Henrietta ATPE scholarship- Must be a graduating senior entering the field of education. Requires two letters of recommendation. Application deadline is April 30, 2009. Completed applications should be turned in to the Counselor's office. ATPE 2009 scholarship app

*North Texas Insurance Professionals and Wichita Falls Association of Insurance Agents- one $1,000 awarded to an outstanding senior student.  If you would like to apply for this scholarship, please see Mrs. Stanford for an application and return along with a transcript by March 27, 2009.  

*Senior-Junior Forum - $1,000 - must be attending MSU, must have 2.5 (B-) or better GPA, financial need, requires two letters of recommendation, a personal letter stating reasons for applying and goals for the future.  Due April 1st.  Applications in Counselor's office.

*The Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) offers a $1,000.00 scholarship to any high school senior that will be pursuing an education as a Bilingual Education teacher.  Log on to http://www.tabe.org to download the scholarship application.  Deadline is March 16, 2009.

*Bryant and Dorothy Edwards Scholarship - MSU - for Clay County graduates.    Amount up to $1,500 a year and is renewable.  Selected on basis of entering test scores, academic achievement, financial need, citizenship and character.  Must plan on being a full time student (12 hours).  click here for website and go to Donor Scholarships.

*Texas Lyceum Scholarship - $2,000. Deadline is March 1, 2009  click here for application 

 

*The Fort Worth Scottish Rite Foundation $1,000 scholarship.  Applications are available in counselor's office or online at www.fortworthscottishrite.org.  The SAT and ACT scores and high school transcripts will be used to determine academic merit.  Requires 2 Academic References and 2 Personal references.  Deadline: must be postmarked by March 15, 2009.  

*Ozarka Natural Spring Water Earth Science Scholarship - Deadline:  March 27, 2009.  B average, plan on studying earth/environmental science in college.  Must write an essay describing why you are pursuing a degree in Earth/Environmental Sciences.  applications found at www.ozarkawater.com  Scholarship documents are located at the "Doing Our Part" section at the bottom of the page. 

 

*Texas Department of Transportation Conditional Grant Program - must be majoring in civil engineering, computer science, management information systems or computer information systems.  Must be a Texas resident attending or planning to attend a 4-year Texas public college or university.  Deadline is March 1st.  To download an application:  http://www.txdot.gov/careers..   

*Texas A&M or Blinn Housing at The Cambridge offers scholarships.  Information can be accessed at http://westlake-tx.org/en/TexasStudentHousing.html.  Information about The Cambridge can be seen at www.CambridgeatCollegeStation.com

*SAMMY 2009 you can nominate yourself for the SAMMY award based on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and milk experience.  go to bodybymilk.com to download application.  Will accept applications online until March, 2009

*Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarships- the only eligibility requirement is that the applicant be enrolled for the academic year following the award in a degree program in an accredoted American institute of post-secondary educaiton and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa.  The award will be made on the basis of an essay of fewer than 550 words which describes the applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal toward which the scholarship is to provide aid.  Amount varies from $300 to $1,000.  Download and print entry form at www.mensafoundation.org/scholarships.  From the left side of the page select the U.S. process link for details and instructions.  Select Application link to access and download the entry form.

*FFA related scholarships - February 15th deadline - must be a current FFA member - amounts vary - form can be found athttp://www.ffa.org/index.cfm?method=c_programs.Scholarships.

*A&M application for freshmen admissions deadline is January 15, 2009.  Students may apply for freshman scholarships through the ApplyTexas Application at www.applytexas.org.  The scholarship page is available through December 1, 2008.

*A&M announced a new program called "Tuition Assurance".  Anyone going to A&M should check this out on the following webpage:  http://dmc-news.tamu.edu/templates/?a=6711&z=15

*Sheppard Officers' Spouses' Club Scholarship - Varying amounts up to $3,000.  Must be alegal dependent son or daughter of US military personnel (active duty, retired or deceased, officer or enlisted).  Deadline is February 23, 2009.  Applications in counselor's office.

*KFC Colonel's Scholars:  to qualify, a student must be:  graduating in 2009, maintain a minimum high school GPA of 2.75 (c) or better, enroll in college by 9/30/09, pursue a bachelor's degree, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.  Applications can be completed online at www.kfcscholars.org.  The application will be available from Dec. 1st through February 10, 2009.  You must complete a FAFSA (earliest you can do this is January).  An estimate of financial need can also be calculated at www.act.org/fane.

*KOH Family scholarship is an engineering scholarship from Texas Tech.  The application is online at www.coe.ttu.edu/koh.  Deadline is January 15th.  Must have a minimum ACT of 32 or minimum SAT of 1400.

*The American Legion produces "Need a Lift?" which lists scholarships, grants and loans as well as information for over 1,400 colleges.  You can access it on the web at www.needalift.org.

*John F. Kennedy 2009 Profile in Courage Essay Contest- write an original and creative essay of less than 1,000 words that demonstrate an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage.  Use at least 5 varied sources such as newspaper articles, books, and/or personal interviews to describe and analyze the decisions, actions, and risks of an elected public official in the U.S. since 1956 who has courageously addressed a political issue at the local, state, national, or international level.  For complete guidelines, to to www.jfklibrary.org and visit Profile in Courage Award.  Deadline via online is January 10, 2009.

 

*Clay County Junior Women's League Scholarship.  Send to Holli McClain, C/O Mathis, West, Huffines & Co., P.C.  PO Box 9700.  Deadline is April 21, 2008.  The scholarship form has April 21, 2007, but I called and it must be postmarked by April 21, 2008.  Clay County Junior Women's League Scholarship form

*North Central Texas College Foundation.  Can apply online at :  www.nctc.edu, click on for Future Student, then Scholarships .  Deadline is April 15, 2008. 

*Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program - $1500, must come from a farm family and plan to pursue a career in the field of agriculture.  Deadline is February 15, 2008.  Applications are available online at www.monsanto.com or www.nafb.com.

*Best Buy Scholarship - good grades, outstanding community service.  www.BestBuy.com  Apply by February 15, 2008.

*Henrietta Lions Club Scholarship application is available in the counselor's office.  Applications need to be turned in to Mrs. Stanford by morning (before school) of May 10th.  The amount is generally $500 but may vary. 

*Girls, if you are interested in going through sorority rush at the college of your choice next fall, come by and pick up a Panhellenic        form.

 

*The Southeastern States Pupil Transportation Conference Board has approved the award of two $1,000 scholarships to deserving students in each of the fourteen southeastern states.  The scholarship funds must be used to cover education expenses at a postsecondary educational institution and will be paid to the institution in support of a student’s 2007-2008 school year expenses. To qualify, a parent/guardian family must have a gross taxable income less than $75,000 for each of the past five tax years.  A parent/guardian of the student must have been actively employed in public school transportation for the past five years.  A student qualifies by graduating from a public high school and then attending a post secondary educational institution in 2007.  The $1,000 scholarship can be used for any part of the student’s 2007-2008 school year tuition, books or fees.   If you are interested, come by the counselor's office and I'll give you the application website. 

 

*  Vernon College Employee's Forum is offering a scholarship to anyone attending Vernon College and majoring in Accounting, Business Management, Computer and Information Sciences, Office Technology, or Health Information Technology.  The amount is for $500 for the 2007-2008 semesters.  Applications are available in counselor's office.  They must be received by April 15, 2007.

*Don't Mess with Texas Scholarship - one $3,000 and two $1,000 awarded.  Eligibility:  legal U.S. resident and currently living in Texas and attends Texas school, planning to attend a two or four year college in Texas.  Requirements:  300 to 350 word essay on topic listed in application, two letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  April 6, 2007.  Download online at www.dontmesswithtexas.org

*If you ever participated in the  Head Start program you would qualify to apply for the scholarships available.  I will put a link on the counselor page that you will be able to open up the document and type the application.  If you aren't sure if you attended Head Start, come by my office and I'll check the list.  Must be postmarked by May 18, 2007.

*Academic Competitiveness Grant and National SMART Grant Webinars is March 6th and March 29th.  You may register to participate in the online seminar at www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/training/index.html

*Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation (a counter-part of Who's Who in American High Schools)- Deadline:  must be in their offices by May 15, 2007.  Must be a legal resident and demonstrate academic ability. Do not have to be listed in Who's Who  to be eligible for the scholarship. Applications are in counselor's office or online at www.ecisf.org

*Zavala Hispanic Cultural Initiative will be offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors.  Deadline is March 17th.  Requires 2 letters of recommendation from teachers, a personal letter of recommendation from a responsible person in the community, a copy of your transcript, and an essay (50-100 words) on "Leadership-What would you like to change to advance the Hispanic community?  And how would you carry out these taske?"  Applications are in the counselor's office.

 

*Slough Foundation Scholarship:  Students receiving the scholarship who meet the established criteria may receive an award of $5,000 a year for up to 5 years or the completion of their bachelor's degree.  Applications are online:  www.midland.edu/admissions/aid/forms/slough/pdf  Eligible applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a Texas resident, submit an application, the results of the FASFA, a one page essay, and an official copy of their high school transcript.  Rank, GPA, ACT or SAT scores will be considered.  Deadline is April 1st.

*A scholarship is being established by Deanna Greenway Thoma in memory of her brother, Rodney Greenway, a Henrietta alumni who died in August 2006.  Mrs. Thoma's criteria is:  the student should be a good all around student who doesn't concentrate solely on grades but maintains at least a "B" average.  I am looking for a student who doesn't already have numerous scholarships due to academic success.  Financial need should be a consideration and preference will be given to students entering the accounting field and attending MSU.  The application for this will be a part of the Community Scholarship Application that will be available in mid-February.  The deadline will be in mid-April.   

*Texas Trial Lawyers Association - $1,000.  2 letters of recommendation, an essay titled "Why the jury is the cornerstone of the civil justice system", resume, transcript and report card, an application.  Deadline:  March 20, 2007.   Download the application at www.ttla.com. 

Optimist International Essay Contest- subject "I Want to Make a Difference Because..."  Must fill out application that has parent permission to participate.  School can send 3 essays.  1st place essay selected by a panel of judges, will be sent to the North Texas District competition.  That winner will receive a $650 scholarship.  Essays must be submitted to Mrs. Stanford by 8th so the top 3 can be selected from a panel from HHS. 

*Texas Elks Foundation (TESA) Scholarship Program - March 6, 2007deadline - CANNOT be in the upper 5% of class.  Applications in Counselor's office.

*Disney CareerStart Program is a new opportunity for students who are graduating.  It is a structured living, learning and earning program for students who are unsure of their future path and looking for a new experience that will provide them more than a job.  You live in a gated housing complex with 24 hour security and Disney Cast members on site to assist you.  Transportaion is available to and from work.  Come by the counselor's office and read about it if you are interested in learning more about it. 

*  LULAC and Zavala Hispanic Initiative:  I received this in the mail this week but the deadline is April 7th.  It requires 2 letters of recommendation, transcript, an essay, a picture and you must agree to be present for the Cesar Chavez Banquet, Saturday, April 22 at the Women's Forum to receive the scholarship award.  Application is available in counselor's office. 

*The Henrietta Community Scholarships Application is now available in Mrs. Stanford's office.  There are 5 scholarships listed on this application (Kellett, Kiwanis, Slaughter, England, and Brockman) .  Deadline:  April 28, 2006.  Click here for the application.

*Kirk Edwards Scholarship - Graduate of Clay County school who will be enrolled full time at MSU and must maintain a GPA of 3.0.  Amount up to $2500 per year and is renewable.  Education majors are encouraged to apply.  Applications in counselor's office or can be accessed online at mwsu.edu/scholarships.  Deadline May 10th.

*Association for Compensatory Educators of Texas (ACET)- offers twenty $1,000 scholarships across the state to students who have, at some time in their career, been enrolled in a compensatory education program.  Compensatory Education includes programs such as Title I, Bilingual/ESL, State Compensatory Education (SCE), Migrant and Homeless.  www.acetx.org/pages/scholarships.html  Deadline:  March 20, 2006

*Federation of Insurance Women Of Texas- this scholarship is for a total of $2,000 and will be awarded as $1,000 in the fall, 2006 and $1,000 in the spring, 2007 semester to a student from our area.  www.fiwt.com , look under the "Federation Docs" tab and download the FIWT Scholarship Application from there.  The requirements are:  1) Must complete application and submit by deadline.  2) Must take a minimum of 12 hours with a least 1 course being insurance or business-related.  3) The college or university must be located in Texas.  4) The applicant must maintain a grade point average of B or above to be eligible.  Deadline:  April 25, 2006.

 

*Area 9 Texas Computer Education Association Scholarship:  Recipient must be a graduating senior in Region 9 with at least a 2.5 GPA and be related to a current Area 9 TCEA member.  Applications are due March 1, 2006.  Applications available in Counselor's office.

*The Lion's club will be giving a scholarship later in the year.  Applications aren't available yet, however, a representative called and ask if any senior would like to help them sack the grocery bags for the needy at the Outreach Center.  They meet at the Outreach center the last Tuesday of the month from 5:30-6:30 to get the sacks of food ready.  Any senior that helped would definitely have an advantage when it comes time for the selection of the scholarship. 

 

*  USA Funds/Access to Education scholarships:  available online at www.usafunds.org then selecting "scholarship information " from the express links menu.  Deadline:  March 1, 2006.  Some money is targeted with students with physical disability or of an ethnic-minority group.  More information is on website.

*   UT Arlington Scholarship Opportunities can be viewed at www.uta.edu/scholarships.  Admission to the university is required for scholarship consideration.  You can apply online at www.uta.edu/admissions.

*Sunrise Optimist Club Friend of Youth essay.  Topic:  "I'm unique because..."Applications are available in the counselor's office.  Area first place winner will receive a scholarship of $650.  Deadline: Must be received by committee by February 17, 2006.

*Sam Walton Community Scholarship - $1,000  - must not be a Wal-mart employee, or be the immediate relative of a Wal-Mart employee.  Must have the four digit location number of Wal-mart store (Lawrence Road Wal-mart is 1148, Central Freeway is 0420, and Bowie is 0271).  On-line application can be found at www.walmartfoundation.org then go to link www.scholarshipadminstrators.net.  Based on ACT/SAT scores, GPA, community/extracurricular involvement and work experience.    Deadline is February 1st.

*got milk?  nominate yourself for the SAMMY 2005 Award.  Judging based on Athletic excellence, leadership, community service, milk experience.  Deadline is March 4, 2005.  Access on www.whymilk.com.

*Baylor: Carr P. Collins Scholarship - 1250 on SAT or 28 on ACT, be in top 25% of class and plan on attending Baylor.

*Texas Student Housing Scholarship Program - $2500 per year for housing in TSH off campus facilities.  Must plan on attending Texas college in communities where Texas Student Housing owns facilities.  (Austin, College Station and Denton) Deadline is February 28th. Application in counselor's office.

*Sam Houston State University 2005-2006 Freshmen Leadership Program:  1030 on SAT and/or 22 on ACE and be fully admitted to Sam Houston State University.  Deadline is first Monday in March.  Application available in Counselor's office.

* Horatio Alger Texas Scholarship - committed to pursue a bachelor's degree (may start at a two year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution), $50,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, involvement in co-curricular and community activities, minimum of 2.0 GPA (similar to C average), be a resident of Texas and citizen of the US.  www.horatioalger.org/scholarships/apply.cfm.
